New Student Information
If you are new to this style of yoga here are some pro tips…
- Always do what you can do and don’t worry about what you can’t do. Your body and being act and react differently every day. Some days you may feel more open and aligned, other days you will feel tightness and stickiness in the previously open areas. Breathe into it all!
- We use the breath deeply– inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the nose unless otherwise specified. As you move through class, bring the breath to all the space and stickiness you are feeling in the body…
- A lot of the time is spent in ‘easy pose’ – a cross-legged position on the floor. Always feel free to shake out the legs and move as you need in-between exercises. And this yoga can be practiced in a chair, preferably a solid, straight-back chair, like a dining room chair
- Visualize! If a posture or exercise becomes highly uncomfortable or painful, stop and visualize the movement. Keep the breath pattern going and let the head-brain move the body via the mind’s eye
- Get to know the sound vibration. We start by tapping into our own inner vibration and then incorporate the energy and sound current within and without. We will often use mantra during our meditation at the end of class. And we begin each class “tuning in” to the energy of the class, acknowledging the teacher within and containing the class energy with mantra.
